Robert Kirkman’s company Skybound Games will be taking over Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead: The Final Season to make sure that the last game in the series is released. This announcement was made during The Walking Dead panel at New York Comic Con.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season is the last installment in Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead series and was supposed to bring an end to Clementine’s story, taking place a few years after the events of the previous game where the main character is all grown up. The previous game was released on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season New Developer Revealed

Telltale Games tried to find a way to finish the game and the developer began looking for multiple partners to take over the project after announcing its closure a few weeks ago, laying off nearly all of its staff. Telltale kept on a skeleton crew, though, to finish its contractual obligations with Netflix for the Minecraft: Story Mode project.

Skybound plans to keep the original development team from Telltale together to see the project come to its conclusion. This should mean that at least some of the staff laid off due to Telltale’s closure will have new jobs, regardless of how temporary it may be. At the time of Telltale’s closure, the final season of the game had only released two of its four chapters. The game was removed from a bunch of online stores.
