No Man’s Sky is available on almost every current platform, and the fact that it will be on Nintendo Switch is particularly exciting. The hybrid console has one key feature that the community is concerned with, handheld mode and the ability to play on the go. This guide explains if you can play No Man’s Sky Nintendo Switch Edition in handheld mode, and what it might look like.

Does No Man’s Sky Nintendo Switch Edition work in handheld mode?
Like most Nintendo Switch games, No Man’s Sky Nintendo Switch Edition is fully functional in handheld mode. When the port’s release date was announced, Hello Games Founder Sean Murray was seen in a video holding a Nintendo Switch that was playing it. This is all the confirmation most fans need, but the game’s official website also notes that this version can be played in both docked mode and undocked mode, meaning handheld mode is a valid way to play.
Will No Man’s Sky Nintendo Switch Edition require an internet connection to be played?
No Man’s Sky can be played offline on all other platforms, so it would make sense that you can play the game offline if you need to on the Nintendo Switch. The only reason the game would require a connection to the internet is if it was a cloud version since cloud versions of games are streamed to the console, not native. However, because there’s been no mention of a cloud version or requiring an internet connection, we believe that you can play No Man’s Sky Nintendo Switch Edition offline.
If you don’t need an internet connection to play the game, you should be able to take it anywhere in the world. For the first time, it will be possible to explore uncharted worlds from the top of a mountain, in a cave deep underground, or even on a Nintendo Switch in space on a rocket or space station.
