Talking with fans on Twitter, creative director Cory Barlog just revealed that God of War is going to feature a Performance Mode alongside 4K graphics on PlayStation 4 Pro, and both the modes are so good he can’t decide which one to use.

“If you do 4k is AMAZING, if you have a 4k TV, of course. If you don’t, we have a performance mode that puts the extra power to good use and makes the game run so so smooth!,” he told a fan asking whether he’d need to upgrade to PS4 Pro to see the full God of War potential applied.

God of War On PS4 Pro Has Performance/4K Mode

When asked about which mode he prefers to play while enjoying his own creature on PlayStation 4 Pro, Barlog said it is “so hard to choose. I love the way the game looks in 4k but I absolutely love the way it moves in the performance mode. DAMN!!! Sophie’s Choice!!!!”.

I’m usually a 4K/resolution guy when the hardware allows me to do that properly, and from the looks of it, PlayStation 4 Pro is running that the way I like.

Digital Foundry also said a few weeks ago that the game is a new 4K benchmark on PS4 Pro – even though it’s checkerboarded -, meaning that’s even better than Horizon: Zero Dawn, so I’m quite sure that this is the mode I’ll be using once I’m able to put my hands on the latest entry in Santa Monica Studio’s series.

Anyway, many users might be interested in the Performance Mode, as the older God of War games are largely hack ‘n’ slash titles and so you might be willing to keep playing this as a fast, bloody action game rather than an adventure à la The Last of Us.

Whatever, your choice, and it’s great to have the opportunity to be selecting the best mode for any need. God of War is releasing on April 20 and we all really look forward to it shipping later next month on PS4.
