The Halo series has always taken the initiative to punish players for leaving games early. That mindset has stayed around in Halo Infinite. If you are trying to get into matchmaking and see the message “User is banned,” here is what you can do.

How to fix the user is banned error in Halo Infinite
Unfortunately, if you get the User is banned message, all you can do to get back into the game on that account is wait for the ban to lift. If you have left multiple matches before they end, either by your own means or by being disconnected, the game will kick you out for a certain amount of time. Here are the times based on the number of offenses.
- 1st – five minutes
- 2nd – 15 minutes
- 3rd – 30 minutes
- 4th – one hour
- 5th – three hours
- 6th – 16 hours
If you do not want to wait the amount of time for your ban to lift, you could always try switching accounts on your console or PC. The Halo Infinite multiplayer is free-to-play, but you won’t earn rewards for your main account and if you start leaving again you will begin racking up the ban times on another account. If you feel that you have been unfairly banned because of the game crashing or being disconnected, be sure to check your internet settings and if everything seems fine there, contact Xbox Support to go further from there.
The best way to never deal with these issues is to make sure you stay in every match until it ends. Even if you feel you have no chance to win the game, you will be penalized if you decide to leave matches too early repeatedly. Do your best to stay in the game and eventually the game will act laxer toward you when you do leave.
