Can you upgrade the DIE Shockwave in Outbreak in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies?

Want a more powerful vacuum?

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s first Zombies map, Die Maschine, was a combination of returning Zombies mechanics while adding in a bunch of new features. Among those features was a brand new wonder weapon called the DIE Shockwave. This weapon vacuums up zombies and converts their souls into ammo to be fired out as a concussive blast. One of the things that made the Shockwave so powerful in Die Maschine was the four elemental upgrades players could unlock and attach to it. With the release of the new mode, Outbreak, Treyarch has brought the DIE Shockwave back, along with the Raygun and RAI-K84. Are those elemental upgrades available for the DIE Shockwave in Outbreak?

Unfortunately, at least as of this writing, there is no way to upgrade the DIE Shockwave in Outbreak. The upgrades for the weapon in Die Maschine could be found in various locked boxes that players had to open, but those are nowhere to be found in the giant maps of Outbreak.

Additionally, like in its first appearance, the Shockwave cannot be Pack-a-Punched, unlike the RAI-K84 and Raygun. This means that you are stuck with the DIE Shockwave base form as long as you carry it, which is still pretty powerful, but we would recommend going for one of the other wonder weapons as they have a much higher ceiling than this weapon.

While the DIE Shockwave cannot be upgraded right now, that doesn’t mean it will always be that way. Treyarch has already spoken about how there is no main Easter egg in Outbreak, but there will be one that comes in Season Three for Black Ops Cold War. This can give DIE Shockwave fans some hope for the future, although with Season Two recently starting, you could potentially be waiting a long time.
