Who is Weiss in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade?

Weiss's greater role in the game is still unknown.

The Yuffie DLC launching alongside Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be full of new content, including Weiss, a character who should be instantly recognizable to anyone who’s played Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII.

Weiss’s backstory

Weiss the Immaculate originally appeared as a secondary antagonist in the PlayStation 2 game Dirge of Cerberus as the commander of the Tsviets, an elite group of soldiers that led the Deepground army. Though he’s calm and charismatic, he’s also very arrogant and sadistic with a deep hatred for humans. He wields a pair of lever-action sword revolvers, which are based on real-world pistol swords.

This is hardly Weiss’s first stint as a boss, as he was the final boss of Dirge of Cerberus in the form of Omega Weiss.

Weiss’s role so far

Weiss will serve as a hidden boss in the battle simulator, though the details of the fight itself have not been revealed at this time. According to director Tetsuya Nomura in his recent Famitsu interview, he chose Weiss because he wanted a powerful character in the game who isn’t Sephiroth, as well as a boss with impact.

It seems that Nomura has been wanting him to appear in the game as the PlayStation 4 version was being developed. In fact, what made him first consider the character’s inclusion was imagining what kind of battle Cloud and Weiss would have if they clashed.

The thought process behind Weiss now wearing a jacket instead of remaining shirtless as in his original appearance is that he wanted Weiss to have a certain “richness” or refinement since he’s standing more “boss-like” than before.
