When you need to be somewhere in a hurry in Cyberpunk 2077, there’s no better way to reach a destination than by using a vehicle. But you can easily find yourself in situations where you won’t be able to call your car, or if you know there’s going to be trouble, why risk your vehicle? You’re better off hijacking another’s vehicle, and you can do it at any point in the game. The main thing you want to be careful about is if there are any cops nearby when you perform the action.

How to steal cars

The process is similar to if you were planning to take a car from a driver in Grand Theft Auto. You approach the driver’s door, look at it, and then click a button to throw the driver away from the wheel, and assume control, driving away.

The big difference is you cannot do this without first passing a brief skill check. You will need to have enough points in body to pull a driver out of the car, and it depends on what type of vehicle it is.

For example, large vehicles like trucks typically require you to have six points in the body attribute.

On the other hand, smaller vehicles and regular cars usually only require you to have four points in body, so more players are likely to steal these cars in the early portion of the game.

If you steal a car while a police officer watches you, they will attempt to stop you, and it does put a bounty on your head. That means other officers are looking for you, and the more chaos and damage you cause while in this state, the worse it becomes.

If you take a car without anyone stopping you, and it’s yours, you won’t be able to keep it. You can only summon and use vehicles that you purchase. You’ll be able to purchase vehicles later in the game.
