What does Gold do in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5?

Gold in them there hills.

Gold is an extremely important new feature in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5. This new resource is a real game-changer, but you may be a bit confused about what it actually does.

Gold allows you to interact with new NPCs that you can find around the map, getting certain items and services from them. You can also perform Bounties for them, earning even more gold. It’s a very interesting mechanic that Epic have used to really shake up the game, and plays nicely into the theme of bounty hunting for this season.

How to get Gold

There are numerous ways to get gold. You can find it in chests, get it from the loot dropped by eliminated enemies, and you can perform bounties for NPCs.

NPCs will be marked in the game by speech bubbles. When you see one, head towards it and interact with them. They will offer a range of services, which can include Bounties that you need to complete. These can range from bringing an item to a certain place, to killing a specific player or using certain types of weapons. When you complete them, you will get some gold as a reward.

What does Gold do?

Once you have gold, you can use it at the same NPCs to purchase items, weapons, or services from them. Each NPC will offer different things, although those NPCs do not seem to be persistent at this time. They will spawn in the same place, but not in every game, so it can be a bit random about who you find and what they can do.

So far, this is a list of what we have been able to buy with Gold from the NPCs:

  • Weapons
  • Ammo
  • Healing Items
  • Revive a teammate
  • Mythic weapons
  • Hire the NPC to follow you like a Stark Robot and help you fight

We will update this guide as we learn more about Gold in the game.
